First Bank BC begins final screening today

First Bank Basketball Club will begin their last screening exercise today with 23 players as the management hopes to sign 17 players for the new season.

Already, 10 players from last season’s team have been invited for the screening exercise, which begins today at the sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos. They are Nkechi Akashili, Nkem Akaraiwe, Nwakama Deborah, Iornumbe Regina, Chioma Udeaja, Isuambuk Mary, Amaka Okonkwo, Adekoya Bliqis, Amarachi Udeh and Ebiege Joy.

Also, 13 players who survived the first phase of camping held last week are expected to be at the venue today. The are Grace John,  Kelani  Olasumbo,  Bethel Ekperigha,  Okoro Ifunaya, Ogedegbe  Tobiloba,  Bukky Daniel,  Ogharanduku  Sharon, Oguego  Chisom,  Ogoigbe Merilyn,  Ikidi  Tena and Rita Enoiyi , Vanessa Oduah Isioma and Esther Okoli Chinasa.

Coach of the team, Peter Ahmedu told NationSports that six players have been dropped from last season’s squad and all the players (including the old ones) would have to prove themselves in the final phase of screening if they hope to make the 17-man roster for the 2018 season.

He stated that he was looking for players who would fit into his playing philosophy and warned that no one is guaranteed a place in the team until the screening exercise ends on Wednesday. He said all the old players who received invites for the screening exercise are expected to report at the National Stadium before 10.30am on Monday.
He also stated that the team would be unveiled on Thursday while preparation for the new season would commence immediately. He also hinted that the players who made the cut after the first phase of screening were put through fitness test and should be ready for the rigours of the second phase screening.
“What we hope to achieve from all these is to have a team that can vie for honours both at home and abroad. We also hope to tie the players down to long term contacts that would see them become integral part of the team,” Ahmedu added.
